Good old 7-11

It has been a while. With the pandemic raging around the world, travelling becomes a luxury that many of us no longer can afford. Of course I miss my fave country. What to do? It is what it is.

Good thing is that I can still rely on Mikey to show me aspects of the Land of Hello Kitty. One video that I really really like is this

Train to Nagasaki

If you have been following my earlier posts, you would know that one thing to try out in Japan is their shinkansen (bullet train). In the following video, Mikey took a train ride to Nagasaki where he tried out the wide variety of bento sets available in the train . He had one of the best fried rice from a little shop in Nagasaki.

Ryokan Stay

One unique experience that everyone should try in Japan is to stay in a ryokan. A ryokan is like a traditional type of japanese inn. The guests would usually dress in yukata and you will get to interact with the owner (if you like). So far my experience is that the ryokan owner will usually respect your privacy and would not try to chat you up. Plus most of them speak mostly Japanese. Breakfast and dinner are usually provided as well. I remembered that it came to a pleasant surprise to us at Hakone when we saw the full spread of food during our first breakfast at a ryokan stay. There was sashimi, miso soup, grilled fish and rice. it is practically a full set meal. I also recalled that we were the only guests in most of the ryokan we stayed in. So we really get the use of onsen to ourselves. Cool.

See Mikey share his ryokan stay in Kobe in the following video.

Udon noodles

i love udon! I know not everyone likes thick noodles but it can really be tasty.  In this video, Mikey will introduce us to 2 fantastic udon places in Japan. The first restaurant (Shin Udon) has really nice tempura as well.  Personally I really love the Oni-Himokawa noodles at Hanayama Udon place- it is flat and wide (totally unlike the normal udon). It is like our ban mian but more QQ.

Ameyokocho Market

Whenever I go to Tokyo, I will definitely make a trip to Ameyayokocho Market. There are a lot of little shops that sell groceries, street food and lot of drug stores. It is kinda like our wet markets though it is bigger. Think of it like a flea market but with proper store space.

In the following video, Mikey will bring us to try out various street market at Ameyokocho Market:
